Princess Alexandra visited the town hall last month to attend a citizenship ceremony.

Princess Alexandra presented 20 new citizens with a specially-minted commemorative coin on St George's Day.

The new citizens swore an oath of allegiance to the Queen and sang the national anthem as part of the process of gaining citizenship, a legal requirement for new citizens to the UK.

At the start of the ceremony Royal Marines entered the council chamber carrying Union Jack flags.

A choir from St Cecilia's School, Southfields, sang Jerusalem and I vow to thee my country.

After the ceremony the mayor of Wandsworth, Councillor Jane Cooper, hosted a small reception in her office for Princess Alexandra with the Royal Marines forming an honour guard at the ceremony.

Princess Alexandra has close links with the borough, with her grandmother, Queen Mary, opening the new Wandsworth Town Hall in 1937.

The princess herself opened the borough's register office in 1993 and took part in the council's centenary celebrations in 2000.

During her visit she was shown memorabilia dating back to her grandmother's historic visit in 1937 and given a commemorative DVD with footage of the visit.
