Police have cordoned off a road in Weybridge after a man's body was found in a flat.

South Road has been cordoned off between Tesco Express and Church Pharmacy and police are now appealing for information after a body was discovered in a flat in adjacent Queens Road.

Robert Bantoft, who works opposite Church Pharmacy, said: "I just saw lots of police cars arriving very quickly and lots of flashing lights.

"At the peak there were five marked police cars and they were joined by three unmarked vans. I have been gawping at it all day trying to work out what's going on.

"I heard a helicopter landed on the cricket green but was not sure if it was police or an air ambulance or if was linked."

He said the pharmacy, inside the cordon, had shut early.

Speaking from the scene, Sergeant Nev Parsons said: "Police are investigating the death of a man.

"One person has been taken into custody and at this time anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area of Queens Road and South Road between the hours of 3pm and 5pm today is asked to call police."

Anyone with information should call Surrey Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
