Chief Superintendent Peter Gibbons took to the skies above Kenley Airfield on June 20, to raise cash for Victim Support in Croydon.
A sponsored gliding day was organised by the Surrey Hills Gliding Club who arranged for two seater gliders and qualified instructors to be made available for eager flyers.
The ten minute-long flights thrilled first-time flyers who had managed to generate sponsorship for the privilege.
Victim Support expects £1,500 will be raised in sponsorship donations as a result of the day-long flights.
Chief Supt Gibbons said that the police value the work of Victim Support very highly and hoped to raise its profile.
