Schoolchildren in Croydon have been given 5,192 free tickets to the Olympic Games.

The Mayor of London's ticket bonanza saw thousands of children awarded the tickets under the Get Set Ticketshare scheme run in partnership with 2012 organisers LOCOG.

Schools that joined the network were told yesterday (March 15) which sports they will be going to watch.

So far more than 125,000 tickets have been allocated to school children in the capital.

The Mayor Boris Johnson said: “We’re heading into what will surely be the most exciting and inspiring summer of sport this country has ever seen, and it is only right that the capital’s young people are at the heart of the action.”

LOCOG Chair Sebastian Coe said: ‘The opportunity for young people to see world class sport close up is something that was a core part of the bid and this summer thousands will be rewarded for their commitment to living the Olympic and Paralympic values by having a chance to be part of the Games.’
