Children and staff celebrated world book day earlier this month by dressing up as their favourite book characters.

Students from Battersea Park School in Battersea Road were also visited by London author Echo Freer who spoke to the students about what inspired her to be a writer and to read from her new book Toxic Treacle.

The whole school also took part in ‘drop everything and read’ with the school falling silent for the last thirty minutes of the day for staff and students to read.

One student Ziliah, 12, said: “Today has definitely inspired me to read more and chase my dreams.”

Another student, Gaby, also 12, said: “I learnt lots while having fun, and we raised money for charity.”

All money raised from the day will go towards providing books for the Sunrise School in Ghana, where two of the school’s English teachers volunteered over the summer holidays.
