Police are appealing for witnesses after a disabled teenager was robbed of his mobile phone.

Officers were called to Parkway Tram Stop, New Addington, at about 10.50am to reports a young male had been assaulted and robbed.

When they attended the scene they found the 16-year-old boy had suffered cuts and bruises to his head after being punched, kicked and head butted.

The suspect had left the scene with the victim's mobile phone.

A short while after the officers arrived they were informed a member of the public had detained a suspect at a nearby 'Lidl' store.

A 14-year-old boy was subsequently arrested on suspicion of robbery and taken into custody at a south London police station.

The teen remains in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Jane Corrigan said: "This is a callous attack on a vulnerable member of the community.

"Robbery is a very serious offence and we will be relentless in our efforts to pursue those that commit these offences. I would liked to thank the members of the public that assisted the victim and assisted in the detention of a potential suspect.

"I would also like to appeal to anyone that was in or around the area at the time that hasn't spoken to police to contact us."

Any witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to call police in Croydon on 101 or 0208 649 1334 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 11.
