A South Asian arts organisation from Wallington has been awarded £5000 to develop their artistic and creative skills.

Subrang Arts, trained a group of 45 youngsters ranging from of 7 – 25 years old under the guidance of director and choreographer Harsha Amin.

They were awarded the money by the BBC performing Arts Fund - an initiative to support community dance activities.

The group presented a dance production Yatra- A Journey of Indian Dance at the Adrian Mann Theatre, in Epsom on Saturday, February 25.

Lata Desai from Subrang Arts said: “The support from the BBC has enabled us to change the landscape of community dance in the Borough.

“We have been able to give performing opportunities to so many local people from the community, nurtured local talents, raised aspirations and confidence.”

Subrang Arts runs a School of Indian dance and languages at the Wilsons School, Mollison Drive, Wallington every Friday 6 - 8pm during term time.

They also run classes in Thornton Heath, South Croydon and Purley as well.
