The owner of Gala Bingo in Kingston is due to appear in court this morning accused of demolishing part of the historic former cinema.

Franco Lumba, 44, of St Margarets Road, Twickenham, is charged with altering the listed building between July 24 and October 26, 2010.

Company FL Trading Limited, whose headquarters are in Rickmansworth, will also face the same charges when they appear at Richmond Magistrates’ Court today for a first appearance.

Last September, the council’s licensing committee threw out an application to turn the Gala Bingo hall into an arena with a late-night alcohol licence.

An appeal over that decision will be heard by Richmond magistrates in April.
