High winds and poor weather conditions have hampered contractor’s efforts to repair the damaged roof at Epsom Racecourse this week.
Cranes were on site for much of last week working to replace the wind-damaged roof panelling on the £23.5m Queen's stand, built just three years ago, which was damaged by "freak winds" earlier this year.
A spokeswoman for the racecourse said: "Work is ongoing and they are replacing the damaged area and making the structure safe. They have had to factor in the high winds as they can only go up there when winds are at an appropriate level, so that’s why it’s taking longer. Obviously Epsom is pretty exposed. But it will all be done for the start of the racing season in April."
While work continues organisers are confident the roof will be fully repaired in time for the start of the racing season in April.
This year will see the 233rd Investec Epsom Derby Festival, held on Friday June 1 and 2 which will be the first event attended by the Queen as part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
