A woman was lucky to escape uninjured after she fell asleep while cooking last night.
Firefighters were called to the property in Acres Way, Coulsdon, at about 10pm after the woman's neighbours were alerted to the smell of smoke.
They let themselves into the property and woke the woman up, it is believed the woman may have fallen asleep due to medication she is on.
When the crew from Purley fire station arrived they ventilated the property and called London Ambulance Service.
One crew member said: "There was no fire the property was very smoky, but if she hadn't been found she could have died.
"The woman had no smoke alarm in her home, had she had one it would have alerted her.
"It's important people have working smoke alarms in their home and are careful when on strong medication and cooking."
