Trains were brought to a standstill between Norbiton and Kingston after a trespasser ran across the tracks this evening.
Passengers on the 5.50pm train between Waterloo to Shepperton were stuck between the two stations for about fifty minutes when the train was brought to a halt, and the track current switched off, so police could look for the trespasser on the tracks.
Piano Teacher Joe Morgan was on the train that stopped and saw the trespasser, who was dressed in black, walking along the tracks.
He said: “I’m not particularly bothered as these things happen but for some people it is a disaster as I think people want and need to get home.”
British Transport Police confirmed there had been a trespasser walking on the track and that the MET police sent out a police helicopter to assist the search.
A spokesman said: “We were dealing with an incident involving a person that decided to go trackside, we don’t know why but he has been detained.”
Trains on the Waterloo to Shepperton line are now moving again but are delayed by approximately 30 minutes.
