Surrey Fire and Rescue Service will receive £2m from the Government to improve and expand its emergency control room operation.

The funding is an endorsement from central government and will enable the county to improve its control centre at a time when many fire services find themselves coping with outdated facilities.

Surrey’s chief fire officer Russell Pearson said: “In Surrey we’ve been continuously improving and updating our mobilising control centre and this funding is an endorsement of Surrey’s strategy.

“We now receive all emergency fire and rescue calls from the Isle of Wight and this £2m will help us further improve and expand our operation in the future.”
