A warehouse and distribution centre could create 500 jobs on an industrial estate.

The proposal was put to Croydon Council strategic planning committee on Thursday March 1 by Indigo Planning, for the Ullswater Industrial Estate in Coulsdon, with a planning application due to be submitted later this year.

Included in the proposed development would be a single distribution facility with 7400 square metres of warehouse floor space, alongside 155 parking spaces and 171 van parking spaces.

Councillor for East Coulsdon Chris Wright said: "The whole estate dates back to the 60's and some of it is beginning to look a bit tired. If the development produces 500 jobs it would be very warmly received."

He added it would be up to the planning committee to look over any proposals and warned traffic and access issues would be crucial.

A spokesman for Indigo said: "We felt the proposal was met favourably and will now be moving towards putting together a planning application. This proposal would regenerate the industrial estate and provide jobs for the area."
