Replacements for two sacked cabinet members in Surrey have been announced.

Councillor Helyn Clack will replace Councillor Denise Saliagopulous, who was asked to stand down as cabinet member for community services and the 2012 Games.

Councillor John Furey will take over from Councillor Ian Lake as the cabinet member for transport and Councillor Denise Le Gal joined the cabinet to fill Coun Clack’s previous role as member for change and efficiency.

Coun Lake and Coun Saliagopulous were sacked from the cabinet on Tuesday, March 6.

Coun Lake told BBC Surrey he was shocked and appalled by the decision, and hurt at the way it had been handled.

He also said he was exploring the possibility of legal action over the way it had been handled.

Surrey’s leader Councilllor David Hodge said: “I’m delighted to welcome John Furey and Denise Le Gal to the cabinet. I’m sure they will be a great asset to Surrey and will help the council go from strength to strength.”
