I find the article on Miss Mba (Entire Sunday off work not core component of faith, March 1) quite extraordinary, not only because of its content, but because of the accompanying 'What do people think?’, which presented the opinions only of those that supported the right of religious beliefs to supercede the terms of employment.

To respond to Ms Bailey's letter 'Employers Must keep the Faith', as someone who on many occasions in the past has interviewed applicants for posts in the public sector, I would never have asked about religious beliefs, any more than I would enquire about a person's sexuality.

These are private to the applicant.

When you apply for a job it behoves the applicant to ensure that those responsibilities which lie within the job description will be tenable to that person — otherwise don't apply.
