A second person has been arrested after a teenager was stabbed on a bus in West Norwood on Friday afternoon.

The incident, which happened on the top deck of the 432 bus in Ernest Avenue, left a 17-year-old boy fighting for his life in hospital. He is now in a stable condition, according to police.

Yesterday afternoon, an 18-year-old man was arrested in connection with the attack after presenting himself at a south London police station. He remains in custody.

A 16-year-old boy was previously arrested and bailed until a later date.

The attack was one of seven stabbings to take place in Lambeth since last Saturday (February 25), sparking fears of a turf war.

In Brixton on Friday evening, a 17-year-old boy from Catford was stabbed to death as he walked with a friend through the Moorlands Estate in Brixton. He was later named as Kwame Ofosu-Asare.

Detective Chief Inspector John McFarlane, who is investigating the murder, appealed to the public for information about his killers, who are described as two young black men.

He said: "Kwame was an innocent young man enjoying himself on a Friday afternoon when he was pursued and attacked by two knifeman.

“I am appealing for anybody who was in or around the Moorlands Estate at that time and may have any information to come forward."

Commander David Zinzan, who has overall responsibility for policing in south-east London, said: "Extra officers have been drafted in to reassure and protect the public, and to act as a strong deterrent to anyone thinking of committing further violence in the aftermath of these incidents.

"We know the community support us in our efforts to solve crimes of this nature for the sake of victims, their friends and families, and for the community as a whole.”
