A group of pupils will get the chance to get a sneak preview of the new look wandle Park.

The park was closed in January and is expected to reopen later this year, during which time a series of major improvements will be carried out.

They include the opening up of the Wandle, ornamental planting, a bandstand, a water fountain, and a new skate park and ball court.

On March 7, a group of pupils from Kingsley Primary School in Broad Green will be given a guided tour of the park to see the progress of the work.

The children will be shown the route the Wandle will take across the park when it is brought back to the surface.

The pupils had previously produced artwork of their ideas for how they would like to see the park develop.

Councillor Sara Bashford, cabinet member for customer services, culture and sport, said: “The regeneration of Wandle Park is progressing well and I’m sure the young visitors will have an enjoyable and interesting time.

“It’s important that youngsters do get involved with this sort of project. Involving them at an early age helps to give them a feeling of ownership and that they have helped invest in the future of their borough.”
