Wandsworth Council has raised almost £200,000 by allowing a number of films including The Iron Lady to be filmed in the borough.

On average, Wandsworth hosts more than 1,000 filming and photoshoot days every year - one of the most popular filming locations remains Battersea Park.

Last summer, Meryl Streep visited Wandsworth to film scenes for the Oscar-nominated The Iron Lady along with Olivia Colman, who played Margaret Thatcher’s daughter, Carol.

Last year, the council raised about £180,000 by approving various film and TV projects – money which is fed back into the town hall.

Also using the park as a backdrop over the summer were the cast and crew of Bollywood blockbuster Ra One – said to be the second highest-grossing Bollywood film ever made.

A spokesman for the council said: "Being home to historic buildings, beautiful parks, vibrant towns and bustling streets, it is no surprise that Wandsworth is consistently ranked each year as being one of the top five boroughs in London for filming."

Other examples of projects which have used the borough as a backdrop include The Inbetweeners Movie and Woody Allen’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger.

Some of the TV shows which have filmed in Wandsworth are New Tricks, Ashes to Ashes, The Jury, Spooks and Law and Order.

Nintendo, Microsoft, Marks and Spences, Kelloggs, Tropicana and Tesco have also filmed commercials here recently.
