Care home chefs took part in a Masterchef-style cook-off on February 29.

Sunrise of Weybridge, the specialist dementia and residential care community, hosted the event, which saw 10 chefs from Sunrise care homes across London battling it out.

The competition was inspired by the importance of supporting elderly residents to lead healthy lifestyles.

Cooks were placed in to three teams and each one was charged with making its own innovative starter and desert dish for the judges to sample. For the main course all teams had to present their own versions of the classic British dish, fish and chips. The winning team was from Bagshot and Fleet.

Christine Bunce, general manager at Weybridge, said: “We are proud to have such talented catering teams at our Sunrise Senior Living communities, which is vital to promote the health and well-being of all our residents.

“Countering the old-fashioned misconception about ‘care home’ food being low quality is something we are passionate about at Sunrise, and we are shortly going to be writing to Jamie Oliver to raise awareness of the work we are doing and seek his support.”
