A ceremony has been held celebrating the new multi-million pound council office reaching its pinnacle.

Bernard Weatherill House, named after the former Croydon North MP who was elected seven times between 1964 and 1992, is to replace Taberner House tower block and is part of the Council Urban Regeneration Vehicle agreement.

A topping out ceremony, celebrating the structure reaching its highest point, was held on Tuesday February 28 and was conducted by mayor of Croydon Coun Graham Bass.

Councillor Tim Pollard, Croydon Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and economic development said: “As well as driving down the cost of delivering high-quality public services, the CCURV deal means that the council does not have to sit back and wait for private sector companies to regenerate Croydon.

“In the coming years we will see a number of sites transformed - delivering new homes, public spaces and modern office facilities.

“Whole areas will be redeveloped and life will be made better for a huge number of people thanks to this deal. That is what CCURV is really all about and why it is so important to Croydon.”
