The parents of a woman with learning difficulties say they are glad to be alive to see their daughter move into a new dream home in Hook.

Sally Piercy, 51, will be one of the residents of Edwardian style Maple Lodge, run by Fircroft Trust, who will move into modern Firs Court next month after years of fundraising efforts.

The Kingston Guardian spoke to her parents in their home in Kingsmead Avenue, Tolworth, nearly three years ago.

With just a few weeks to go they spoke about their excitement and gratefulness at what the charity had achieved.

When the Kingston Guardian spoke to the pair at the outset of the appeal in March 2009, Rose Piercy, 75, said: “It would be terrible if they had to split up because they do care for each other.”

This week she said: “It is wonderful they will all be settled together. It is like a lovely family and it’s just we’re lucky enough to see this happen. I’m just glad we are alive to see it all.”

The site in Hook will bring together people from three care homes in a modern building with lifts, wide doors and with staff from the charity.

Mick Piercy, 81, said: “We know when we go she’ll be looked after.

“When she comes back for the weekend I always say ‘would you like to stay and look after mum and dad?’ and she says ‘don’t wind me up. I’m going back to Maple.’ "So many people in the community have donated their time and money to Fircroft over their past three years."

The Piercys said a lady called Cathy, a waitress in the Toby Carvery in Ewell which they regularly visit, had done a sponsored run for them, after meeting Sally.

Mrs Piercy said: “Thankyou so much to everyone. If lots of people hadn’t donated we wouldn’t have a home.

"There’s so many kind people around.”

The charity is still fundraising right up to the day of the move as it moves toward the £300,000 it needs to kit out the building.

A housewarming gift list at John Lewis has been set up to make sure it is ready for the residents when they arrive.
