A Croydon schoolgirl who had been growing her hair for three years had it cut off for charity.

Inspired by a similar gesture made by another child Lauren Montgomery, six, decided to donate 10 inches of her blonde locks to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that supplies real hair wigs to children suffering hair loss due to cancer treatment.

The Gonville Academy pupil chose to donate her hair to the charity after discovering they didn't charge their customers for the wigs.

In support of Lauren's efforts to also raise £500 for the charity, her school have organised a Britain's Got Talent themed night to help her meet her target.

On Saturday February 25, she was joined by family and friends at the Kuts 4 Kids salon in Purley, where she had her hair cut.

She said: "I wanted to help children that have no hair so they can be happy again and not sad and no-one can laugh at them or make fun of them."

Lauren's mum Katherine Robson, 29, said her daughter had always put others before herself.

She said: "She has always been like that, wondering how can she help other people, she likes to do that. The whole thing was very nerve wracking, I was worried she would turn around and change her mind.

"But at the same time I was so chuffed that she wanted to do it, it's such a brave thing to do. I am very very proud of her."

Lauren's hair will be sent to the charity who will treat it before turning it into a wig. She now plans to grow her new bob long again so she can donate more hair to the charity.

She added: "I am going to grow my hair a little bit longer because I would like to do it again."
