An MP was left without a paddle when he took on some of the borough's rising table tennis stars.

Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington, visited Rosehill Table Tennis Club as part of his olympic challenge.

Mr Brake completed the fourth stage of his Olympic Gold Challenge for charity, which will culminate in him take on the Blenheim triathalon in June.

Members of the Club Committee, including founder member Derek Wedge, met Mr Brake to discuss what the challenges the club faces.

Mr Brake said: "I really enjoyed my time playing with the club last week. It's a great community club, and attracts players of all different ages and backgrounds which makes for a very welcoming atmosphere."

Some of the club's more talented junior players played Mr Brake and he regretted challenging the youngsters soon after.

He said: "Some of the junior players are already at a very high standard, and all credit must go to the club for nurturing and encouraging talent from an early age."

The rest of the Challenge will see Mr Brake take part in another five sporting events, including running the 100m sprint at the brand new Olympic Stadium on April 1.

The MP is undertaking the challenge to raise money for Bliss, a charity that provides care and support for the 80,000 babies who are born sick or prematurely every year.
