APPROVAL IN OFFING: Councillors are expected today to follow planning officers' recommendations to allow a former Metropolitan police cadet training school to be turned into a hostel for around 100 young professionals. Hiltondell Ltd applied to change the use of Sir Ranulph Bacon House in Sylvan Hill, Upper Norwood, last year. Two petitions and 49 letters of objection to the hostel have been lodged.
TRIP TO DOME: Following rave reviews, pupils from 27 Croydon schools will take the town's story to the Millennium Dome tomorrow. Some 64 performers will perform 2000CC, a 20 minute musical interpretation of Croydon's story, to a national audience.
tWO ARRESTED: Two men have been arrested and released on police bail following an attack on a 14-year-old Albanian boy in Lodge Lane, New Addington, on April 4. The first man, a 42-year-old from Coulsdon, must return to South Norwood police station on May 17 while the second, a 27-year-old from New Addington, must return on May 31.
CHIP SHOP RAIDED: Two "bikers" raided a New Addington fish and chip shop on Friday, stealing thousands of pounds. The men, dressed in black leathers and motorbike helmets, forced open the shutters of Quality Fish at 11.55pm, forcing the staff inside to open the safe. Anyone with information about the raid is asked to call PC Rob Buckell on 020 8768 1212.
