Ideal Home Show Ambassador Suzi Perry is currently planning her own Ideal Home of the Future.

As you’d expect of Channel Five’s Gadget Show star it will jam packed with cutting-edge technology.

So it’s surprising to learn that Suzi’s husband, Dutch businessman Bastien Boosten, is not a technology nerd like his wife. Just like most of the rest of us, he only gets into gadgets once Suzi has set them up at home.

“Our house is always full of gadgets I’m testing,” says Suzi.

“But my husband isn’t really into them. Once I’ve set them up though and shown them working, he’ll usually say, ‘that’s really good!’”

Suzi is passionate about technology and what it can do for us in our daily lives. So she’s delighted to once again be the celebrity ambassador for the gadgets section of the home show.

“The centrepiece of the entire show will be Ideal Gadget’s fantastic Home of the Future,” says Suzi.

“It’s going to look truly amazing and will be set in the middle of a lake, with waterfalls. I can’t wait to see it.”

The Ideal Home of the Future sponsored by Virgin Media will be the venue for live stage performances taking place every 20 minutes throughout the show’s 17-day run. It will showcase mind-bending new ideas and inventions that may well be common place in our homes in the not too distant future.

“Gesture controlling is going to be big at the show this year and in our homes in future,” predicts Suzi.

“Because of the success of the X Box Kinect, we’re going to see more gesture and voice-activated technology. Switches and remote controls are likely to become things of the past.”

Suzi, 41, is designing an extension to her own home in the South of France, and hopes to incorporate many of the latest technologies.

She’s also planning a customised bathroom with a walk-in shower that memorises the individual heat and power settings of different family users, an ultra-modern kitchen with intelligent gadgets, and a music system that can play different selections in each room in the house.

“I have a teenage stepdaughter and as you can imagine, the music she likes is not what we might choose to listen to,” laughs Suzi.

The 41-year-old star has become a Twitter guru giving the thumbs up or down for gadgets she’s tested.

In spite of her love of technology though, she’s hoping this year to get back to her other passion, motorbikes, along with piloting some new TV and radio programmes.

“I’m really excited about my new projects – I’ll be jumping off buildings and riding my motorbike,”said the self confessed adrenalin junkie.

“I’m also doing a new radio show with my Gadget Show co-host Otis Deeley. “But what I’m really looking forward to doing is riding my motorbike again. I used to do the BBC’s Moto GP coverage and I really miss being involved in the sport, so I’m hoping to get back on my bike for a show this year.”

Suzi enjoys the buzz of live performances and can’t wait to meet visitors to the Earls Court show, while showcasing inventions like the Smoobo bouncing blender and the stress-busting Tranport Pod. Most of this year’s star inventions are being kept under wraps until the show opens on March 16.

Throughout its 103-year-history the Ideal Home Show has introduced the world to some of our most famous technologies, including the Hoover, the washing machine, the sewing machine and even the electric lawn mower.

This year, innovations are expected to debut right across the event. Introducing them will be the other celebrity ambassadors, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen in Ideal Interiors, George Clarke in Ideal Home Improvements, Alan Titchmarsh in Ideal Gardens, Gregg Wallace in Ideal Food and Housewares and Lorraine Kelly in Ideal Woman.

The Ideal Home Show runs at the Earls Court from March 16 to April 1. For further information visit www.idealhomeshow.co.uk
