Edward Davey is one step closer to joining the cabinet after it was revealed Chris Huhne will face charges over a speeding points case.
The Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer announced this morning that energy secretary and his former wife Vicky Pryce would face prosecution.
The charges relate to allegations they perverted the course of justice when Mr Huhne asked his ex-wife to accept speeding points on his behalf.
Mr Huhne was told he must resign immediately if he was charged and David Cameron and Nick Clegg have agreed a Cabinet reshuffle with Edward Davey tipped to take his place.
The pair will appear in court on February 16.
Mr Huhne, MP for Eastleigh, in Hampshire, has denied any wrongdoing.
More to come.
