A woman’s trip to her mother’s grave ended in horror when her car engine exploded.
Firefighters were called to Sutton Cemetery, in Sutton Common Road, at about 2.30pm on Monday when a lady in her 60s reported that her car was on fire.
Mitcham fire station’s Red Watch said the fire had probably been caused by a mechanical fault.
A firefighter said: “She told us that, as she got back into her car, she heard a pop and her car blew up.
“She got out with her two dogs rather rapidly as the fire service arrived. She was pretty shocked but luckily it was not more serious.”
