Hundreds of runners took part in the thirteenth annual Perch XIII on Sunday organised by the Epsom Oddballs Running Club.

Runners gathered on Sunday, January 29, at The Mansion House in Nonsuch Park to run 2000 Perch, an old English measurement which translates to just over six miles, a tradition which the Oddballs began in 2000.

Councillor Sheila Carlson, Mayor of Epsom and Ewell and a keen runner herself, was there to start the race and present the winners with their medals. Previously the run had been held on Epsom Downs but was moved to Nonsuch Park last year.

Martin Day, chairman of the Epsom Oddballs, said: "They have welcomed us with open arms and have been so helpful.

"We had 381 finish the race which is about 100 up on last year. It was a great race.

"The atmosphere was great. The weather was perfect, albeit cold. I think everybody enjoyed it."

Guy Bowles from the Datchet Dashers won the men’s race in a time of 35.02, while Becky McNicholas won the women's race in a time of 40.19.

The Epsom Oddballs were set up nearly 24 years ago as an all-male amateur running club but has since welcomed female members.
