A post mortem examination has been carried out on a man who died after a road traffic collision in Ewell.

The smash happened at about 4.40am on Tuesday, January 10, on Cheam Road when a green Honda Civic collided with railings opposite Ewell East Railway station.

A man in his 40s, who was the sole occupant of the car, was cut free and taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting with serious injuries but later died.

A post mortem examination last week which confirmed the man died as a result of injuries consistent with the impact of collision.

Tributes were laid at the crash site for the man, who has not yet been formally identified.

He is believed to be a member of Trinity Baptist Church in West Norwood.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned.

It is the second accident at the same spot within a month.

Five people, including four pensioners, were taken to hospital last month after three cars collided.
