A presentation evening was held on Wednesday in honour of Sergeant Paul Dowsett, who has been the driving force behind Lambeth Volunteer Police Cadets.

The event in Bishop Thomas Grant School, Belltrees Grove, celebrated Sgt Dowsett's time at Lambeth as cadet co-ordinator and wished him luck in his promotion at Twickenham Borough Police.

Borough Commander Matt Bell attended the event, as well as ex-cadets and colleagues.

The evening demonstrated how cadets have flourished under the leadership of Sgt Dowsett, with highlights including marching at the Lord Mayor's Parade and winning the drill competition in 2010.

Sgt Dowsett and the cadets attended over 120 shops to reduce the under age selling of knives and alcohol during his time as cadet co-ordinator.

As a result 18 fixed penalty notices were given of up to £80, as well as final warnings to sellers found in breach.

Sgt Dowsett said: "“I joined Lambeth Borough Police in 1999 and have worked on many teams but the most rewarding time has been working with Schools and Cadets.

"The last few years has put Schools Officers in the spot light. We know that what we do has an impact on these young people.

"I am proud, and always will be that I was a Safer Schools Officer at Lambeth working with a great team of people."

PC Andy Hewlett said at the event: “Tonight is a fitting celebration to Paul who has the ability to positively influence so many people.

"He is a person that you really want to work with because he just exudes energy, gets things done and is fun to work with. That is Paul’s character and he will be missed very much."
