Metal railings were stolen from Cottenham Park last night, leaving people living nearby in fury.
Residents in Melbury Gardens woke up this morning to find thieves have unbolted ten sections of the railings, which were only installed this month.
It is suspected they were stolen to be melted down for scrap metal value by thieves.
A spokesperson for the police said: "We are investigating the theft of metal railings from Melbury Gardens after it was reported this morning.
"No arrests have been made and enquiries continue."
The railings were put up after funds were raised by the Friends of Cottenham Park and Merton Council.
Councillor Rod Scott, who reported the theft to police said: "People are very upset because a lot of residents are in the Friends of Cottenham Park organisation, people have worked to get these railings installed.
"There are friends who live just by the gardens who keep an eye out, but this has happened in the middle of the night."
Anyone with information can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
