Students at ACS Cobham International School have found a new way to get advice on dating, and improve their Spanish at the same time.

140 pupils watched a play, performed completely in Spanish, about two teenagers going on their first date.

Watching the live performance gave them a chance to immerse themselves in the language, get out of the classroom and made a change from listening to pre-recorded exercises.

It also gave the school’s media studies class a chance to get involved, setting up all the lighting and filming the performance.

Although the students speak different levels of Spanish, 13-year-old Ellie Rampula said: “The actors made it easy to follow for the beginner’s class.”

And despite being only 10 years old, Clement Sutter was pleased that he could follow the story.

Claudia Westphal, the school Spanish teacher who organised the play, said: “it was a great way for students to improve their language skills outside of a typical classroom environment. It highlighted so well all the basic concepts that students have covered in class and allowed students to practise their listening skills in a fun and engaging way.”

The school were so delighted with the performance that they are considering making it an annual event.
