An gardening volunteer has won an award for his work at a sheltered housing scheme.

Federico Filippi picked up the Garden Hero award after dedicating many hours of his free time since March 2011 to work in the garden at Mount Court, in Putney.

The 29-year-old is a volunteer with the Garden Partners scheme which links older people with volunteer gardeners for gardening and growing together.

Mr Filippi said: "It has been great to have had the opportunity to develop what will hopefully be a model agro-ecological project in the heart of Putney, and to have the involvement of the residents, other charities and the local community in making it happen."

He has rekindled interest among tenants who thought their gardening days were over, but who are now joining in with growing and watering.

His £250 prize will be spent on introducing bee-keeping at Mount Court.
