A daisy field has been given "an official voice" thanks to residents.

Residents of Stonecot have set up a Friends of the Daisy Field society to protect the interests of the field following vandalism last year.

Last January, the largest tree planting in Sutton's history took place at the field, officially known as the Reigate Avenue Recreation Ground.

The hard work was undone shortly afterwards when vandals destroyed many of the trees.

Resident Simon Densley, who organised the original tree planting, said: "Everyone I speak to in the park thinks the trees add so much to the park and every one of them is disgusted at how some people can just destroy all that beauty and hard work. The time is right to give The Daisy Field an official voice with Sutton Council so we can ensure it is properly looked after into the future."

A public meeting of the group will take place at the life centre in Sutton Common Road on Wednesday the January 25 at 7pm.
