A water-bound alternative to the charity shop is drawing support from Kingston residents.

The Phil the boat scheme, run by skipper Peter Oldham, aims to collect all types of unwanted textiles and clothing.

These are then recycled, with the proceeds going towards the River Thames Boat Project, which provides excursions on the Thames for people with disabilities and older people.

Mr Oldham said the scheme was going well and he was considering making it a full-time operation.

Donate unwanted textiles at the Richmond Venturer, which is moored near Kingston town centre in the Barge Dock, between 9am and noon each Thursday.

Or phone 020 8940 3509 to arrange a collection.
