A school chef has been named the top cook in London.

Sharon Taylor, who works at St Giles Special School, South Croydon, took part in the London School Chef of the Year competition at Croydon College on Tuesday.

Mrs Taylor wowed the judges with her apricot chicken with Asian-inspired noodles followed by That's Not Ice Cream - a light courgette cupcake cooked in an ice cream cone with cooked butter cream icing.

School Chef of the Year is organised annually by the Local Authority Caterers Association (LACA), to demonstrate and convince parents of the vital role healthy school meals can play.

It is the industry’s premier culinary event exclusively for those in the education catering sector.

The Competition aims to showcase the high standards of skill, creativity and professionalism amongst school caterers.

Mrs Taylor will go on to take part in the 2012 National Final scheduled for later in May 2012, be pitting her culinary skills against nine other top school chefs from across Great Britain.
