Forty firefighters were called to fight a fire which devastated the ground floor of a Mexican restaurant this morning.

They were called at 12.30am to the blaze in Cucarachas, Battersea Rise, at the junction of Leathwaite Road.

It was extinguished by 2am and the entire ground floor of the four storey building was damaged.

A woman living in a flat above the restaurant was rescued by firefighters and three people left the building before they arrived.

Nobody needed hospital treatment.

Investigations continue into what caused the fire, but it is thought it was caused by a free standing stove catching fire to rubbish in the back garden of the restaurant.
