A man was left with a broken finger and cuts to his head in an unprovoked attack with a bottle outside a high street supermarket.

The assault on a woman and two men outside the High Street entrance to Morrisons supermarket in Sutton Town Centre took place on Saturday, January 14, at about 2.30am.

The woman, aged 24, and her boyfriend, aged 26, were walking with a male friend, aged 25, when they were set upon by two unknown men.

The other male received cuts to his hands and face.

The woman is described as receiving only minor injuries. It is not known what object was used to assault them.

Police believe witnesses may have captured the incident with their mobile phones.

Detective constable Paul Williams, of Sutton CID, said there were lots of people in the area at the time going home after a night out.

He said: "I want anyone who saw what happened to come forward, particularly if they filmed the incident on their mobile phone, which we believe to be the case.

"The video that they have on their phones could be vital evidence in helping us catch those people responsible.”

He said he believed it was an unprovoked attack and not linked to any incident inside a nightclub.

He said: "This is a rare incident in the Town Centre so please come forward and help us."
