A shopping centre in Epsom has revealed an 18 per cent increase in the numbers of Christmas shoppers this year.

While many high streets across the country are struggling to compete with low cost online shopping outlets, The Ashley Centre in Epsom has reported an increase in footfall.

During the week of December 19, the number of visitors to the shopping centre increased by 18 per cent compared to the same time last year.

An increase of 4.5 percent shoppers was also recorded at the centre during the post Christmas sale week. Centre manager, David Beddows, said: “We are sure the good weather for the time of year certainly helped, as did the number of new stores that have opened recently.

Feedback from our retailers so far has been positive with good sale figures being reported but the retail market remains tough and we would like to thank all our customers for their continued support of The Ashley Centre’s retailers.”
