Firefighters were called to a fire at an opticians in Croydon on Saturday night.
The crew from Croydon fire station were called to the shop on London Road, at 6.50pm.
No-one was injured in the blaze, which was fully extinguished by 10pm.
One firefighter said: "There was a fair amount of damage, which the Red Watch managed to contain to 10 percent of the first floor.
"It had burnt through the floor of the second floor but the crew got on top of it in time."
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the fire brigade.
