Today has been named Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year, but The Surrey Comet has teamed up with a wacky community group to put a smile on your face.

We want you to send us your witty anecdotes via email, Twitter, or by commenting below, and on Thursday we will judge the entries and announce the winner in Friday’s Surrey Comet.

But we also have another challenge in store to help banish the blues.

We’ve partnered with the brains behind Surbiton Ski Sunday and the British Bread Golf Open to try and raise a few laughs with nothing but a can of Alphabetti Spaghetti.

Competitors will scramble to open their tin and using the edible letters make a short uplifting poem or sentence to remind people why life is good in just three minutes.

Community organiser Robin Hutchinson said the challenge is designed to stimulate positive moods and remind us to make the most of what we have.

He said: “Being limited by the letters they have got in the tin will remind us all that we have to do the best with what we've got.

“Being encouraged to think of something positive will stimulate that part of the brain that influences our moods.

“Positive thinking can make you happy, keep you happy and above all give you the strength to get through the rough patches.”

All the entries will be cooked with toast and shared as a reminder of the importance of working together and the strength of community.

The event will be captured on film and camera so those who can’t attend can still banish the blues.

The challenge is taking place at Woodys Bar and Kitchen, in Rams Passage, Kingston, from 1pm.
