Carshalton College hosted a spectacular make-up competition on Thursday 15 December.

The show saw students re-creating looks based on characters from fantasy films like Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Chronicles of Narnia. They had an hour to transform their models while being judged.

Held in the Pulse Sports Hall, 53 beauty students from our City & Guilds Level 2 Beauty Therapy course took part. Congratulations to Nicola Slaymaker who was awarded 1st prize and received a place on an Airbrushing Course worth £1,700.00. Ann-Marie Gordon, Charlotte Kirby and Marie Potter came in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. Due to the high standard of work there were also 3 runner up prizes and 4 awards for good effort.

Prizes were supplied by UnMask The Beauty, Dennis Williams and Kent Brushes.

The show started at 11.00am and family and friends of the students, staff and the general public were able to visit. The competition is put on annually to allow the students to complete a module of their course in organising and taking part in a live event, to celebrate the talents of the beauty students. Winners can also add the achievement to their CV and is a nice way to end the term before Christmas. The show was judged by professional make up artist, Martini Bellieni, who owns Caterham based make-up company UnMask The Beauty. Martini was joined by two other judges and said “Today we have seen awesome, amazing talent and you can see the students at Carshalton College have a passion for make-up. The talent is outstanding and I look forward to working with the College more in the future. As the founder of UnMask The Beauty and make-up artist, I want to work with the local community and places like Carshalton College to help provide the skills and understanding, support and networking opportunities for the students to push themselves.”

Martini also invited the students who came in the top 4 places to spend the day at her studio to learn about the company and beauty industry.

Beauty students do a full range of treatments including: manicures, pedicures, facials, eyes treatments, waxing, make up, false eyelashes, massage and spray tanning. The teaching staff are all dedicated practitioners who continue to work in industry alongside their teaching role, keeping updated of new trends, innovative ideas and practices.
