Wimbledon Park Winter Wonderland finally opened for business today, Saturday.

The ice rink and funfair rides had been due to start on Saturday, December 3, and run until Sunday, January 15.

The six-week event would have required planning permission.

Residents had branded the attraction a “winter nightmare” because of its duration, and fears about disturbance to the park and neighbourhood.

However, the event will now last for two weeks after the planning application was withdrawn, and a shorter timescale that did not need planning permission was proposed.

The attraction includes a synthetic ice rink.
