A shopkeeper extinguished a burning scooter that burst into flames after colliding with a black cab.

The scooter’s driver, believe to be a man in his 20s, suffered minor injuries in the accident on Battersea Park Road at about 7.30pm last night.

Battersea firefighters found they had little to do at the scene after the actions of the local shopkeeper, and left at about 8.15pm.

Watch manager David Waterman said: “There was a person travelling along Battersea Park Road and a black taxi was turning around doing a u-turn in the road, and he drove into the side of the taxi.

“He left the motor scooter and hit the ground and the motor scooter went into the side of the road and caught alight.

“We arrived and there was not a lot to do except make sure the scooter was fully extinguished.”

He said the taxi suffered impact damage and a broken window.

The road was closed for 15-20 minutes, but it is not believed the accident was caused by dangerous road conditions.
