A gang member involved in a ride by shooting in which a man was shot in cold blood in front of police has been convicted of murder.

A jury at the Old Bailey found Jordan Burree, 24, of Down Street, West Molesey, guilty of murdering Sadiq Adebiyi outside Stockwell tube station on May 31.

They also returned a guilty verdict for Tadzingwa Gambiza, 20, of Bradfield House, Wandsworth Road, on Thursday, December 15, for perverting the course of justice.

Burree was with a group of males, including Gambiza, on the Patmore estate, in Battersea, on the evening of the murder.

CCTV showed Burree and an unknown male passenger riding around the Stockwell Gardens estate before crossing Stockwell Road and coming to a stop by Mr Adebiyi, 25.

One of the men on the bike, either Burree or his passenger, then fired shots from a MAC-10 machine pistol, from just 2m away, and Mr Adebiyi died at the scene.

Uniformed police officers on patrol witnessed the shooting from their van and gave chase before losing sight of the bike as it headed towards Battersea.

People on the Patmore estate then helped randomly scatter the evidence and officers recovered clothing, helmets and a balaclava from bushes around the estate, the court heard.

Gambiza was tasked with dumping the motorcycle and was arrested when he lost control and crashed on the estate.

Mr Adebiyi lived near the scene of the shooting and it was thought he may have been targeted simply because he was walking on the street at the time.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Hutchison from Trident, said: “Sadiq Adebiyi was shot down in cold blood on a busy street.

“He appears to have been targeted as a possible member of a rival gang rather than because he was personally known to his murderers.

“This highlights the danger this kind of mindless gang conflict poses to young people in some areas of London.

“I would like to acknowledge the bravery shown by those unarmed officers who chased the suspects from the scene of the murder and arrested Mr Gambiza."

The passenger who helped carry out the murder has never been identified, and the machine gun never recovered.

Det Chief Insp Hutchison said: “A number of people witnessed some of the events that night, but have been unwilling to help us. I appeal to them to reconsider their position.

“Trident works with our colleagues in the criminal justice system to ensure that witnesses are protected before, during and after criminal trials.

“This investigation is not over and with those witnesses help we could convict the other person who carried out this murder.

“I would also like to offer my condolences to the family of Sadiq Adebiyi."

No date has been set for sentencing.
