A pensioner has died following a collision in Croydon.
The incident happened at about 3.40pm yesterday when the 86-year-old woman was hit by a white Mercedes Sprinter van in Primrose Lane, Croydon.
London Ambulance Service attended and the elderly woman was taken to a London hospital, where she subsequently died.
Police reported she lived locally.
They have informed next of kin but are awaiting formal identification.
A post-mortem examination is to be held in due course.
The 37-year-old male driver of the Mercedes was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and taken to a south London police station, where he remains in custody.
Officers from the Collision Investigation Unit at Catford are leading the inquiry and are appealing for witnesses.
