A 45-year-old woman and 23-year-old man have been arrested after a series of police raids across Sutton.

A dozen officers from Sutton’s Community Safety Unit split into two teams to visit seven addresses on the morning of Wednesday, December 7.

It was all part of operation Athena which targets domestic violence and hate crime offenders across London.

The woman from Gloucester Gardens was arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm and has been bailed pending further police enquiries.

The man from Park Hill, Carshalton, was arrested on suspicion of malicious communications.

He was charged on the same day and is due to appear at Croydon Magistrates Court on December 15.

Detective Sergeant Maxine Davies, of Sutton’s Community Safety Unit, said: “What we tend to find is that once people realise we are looking for them, many of them tend to come into the police station voluntarily within a day or so to help us with our enquiries.

"Of course, we continue to seek out those that don’t make contact."

“We urge all victims of domestic violence to get in touch with police and not to suffer in silence.”

Alternatively, victims can pop into Sutton’s One Stop Shop, a free confidential drop-in service for both men and women, which has weekly sessions at Sutton Baptist Church, at the junction of Cheam Road and Sutton Park Road, on Wednesdays between 9.30am to 11.30am.
