A Christmas raffle was held in Ronald McDonald House, St George's Hospital to raise money for families with sick children.

Mayor of Wandsworth Councillor Jane Cooper joined staff and families to draw winners on Tuesday.

The proceeds will go towards supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities, which provide free accommodation for families whose children are being treated at hospital.

Families with children who have serious and life threatening illnesses use the house as a home away from home.

Jeanette Hill, manager for Ronald McDonald House, Tooting said: "Ronald McDonald House Tooting costs in the region of £80,000 a year to run and so it is vital that we do as much as possible within the local community to raise funds for this much needed facility.

"The Christmas raffle is an important event for us and we are so appreciative of everyone who supports this worthwhile cause and to the mayor for coming to visit us and draw the winners' names"

Steve and Natasha Paul, of Horsham, Sussex stayed in the house when their son Max was born 10 weeks premature.

Mr Paul said: "Words really can't express how we feel about Ronald McDonald House Charities but what I can say is that they helped us find strength in a time that I can only describe as hellish."
