A Croydon estate agents' festive fun day raised more than £1,000 for a domestic violence and child abuse charity.

James Alexander on London Road, Norbury, closed their office on December 3, to raise funds for Norbury based charity Cassandra's Learning Centre (CLC).

The charity, which helps victims of domestic violence and child abuse, was set up in memory of Cassandra McDermott.

The 19-year-old was killed by her former boyfriend in October 2001 and the CLC regularly visits schools to raise awareness of abuse in their home, and to highlight how they can help.

The estate agents teamed up with the Norbury Manor Business and Enterprise College's Interact Club, and reopened as Santa's Grotto.

Guests were treated to performances from a choir, and school children sold a range of home-made products, including jam.

There was a special visit from Santa and fundraisers also organised a drawing competition and prizes and certificates were awarded to the top entries.

Ken Hume director of James Alexander, said: "Thank you to everyone who made it such a special day in the true spirit of Christmas."
