Drink drivers who put lives at risk will be targeted in Kingston police’s festive road safety campaign.
Inspector Richard Dean wants to hammer the message home of the potentially fatal consequences of driving while under the influence of alcohol over the Christmas period.
Insp Dean said: “In recent years there have been some fatal collisions on our roads involving drivers who had been drinking and young people have lost their lives “If you have been drinking, please don’t even think about getting behind the wheel - your ability to drive will be impaired with potentially disastrous consequences.”
The blitz on drink driving will see additional police patrols and enforcement in various locations around the borough.
Boozing motorists have also been warned that if they are caught by over the limit they could face a criminal record, a fine up to £5000 and a driving ban.
Insp Dean added: “We want to hammer home the message that risking a drink before driving can mean risking everything.“ Kingston street pastors will be out in the town centres bars and clubs during the festive period distributing anti drink-drive leaflets and promoting travel options for a safe journey home.
